Why Randy Moss Should Be Considered for a Spot in the Monday Night Football Booth

SI's Vikings team reporter Will Ragatz makes the case for Moss joining the booth

The NFL regular season is just three months away and ESPN has yet to announce its Monday Night Football booth for 2020, though the network has said it plans to look internally to fill the roles previously held by Joe Tessitore and Booger McFarland. SI Vikings reporter Will Ragatz points out one obvious choice for the role is former Vikings Wide Receiver and current ESPN analyst Randy Moss. Moss is already a part of the Monday Night Football broadcast as an analyst for the pregame, halftime, and postgame show, but he could be a strong option as ESPN looks to fill the vacant Color Commentary role for the game broadcast.

Madelyn Burke: The NFL regular season is just three months away, and ESPN has yet to announce its Monday Night Football booth for 2020. Though the network has said it plans to look internally to fill the roles previously held by Joe Tesstorre and Booger McFarland as Vikings reporter Will Ragatz points out, one obvious choice for the role is former Vikings wide receiver and current ESPN analyst Randy Moss. Will, Randy is already a part of the Monday Night Football broadcast as an analyst. What makes him the right choice to move to the books?

Will Ragatz: Well, there are a number of reasons why I think it makes a lot of sense. The main one that he's already right there and Randy Moss is a legend. I mean, there's been a lot of criticism directed towards Booger McFarland and Jason Witten the year before that in that color commentary roll on Monday Night Football. It's heavily scrutinized. But you're not going to find a lot of people who don't like Randy Moss. I think people are going to root for him to succeed. They're going to give him a chance. And everything about Moss's career in the NFL and his career on television indicates that he would have a good chance to be successful. He's been one of the most entertaining people in football for several decades now. He's been good in his studio role. So it's not an easy transition to move to the booth. But I think it's one that Moss could handle.
